
States Information

High school level (grade levels 9/10 and 11/12 have been combined within the high school competition grade level) consists of three components:

Essay: Each team researches and submits an in-depth essay electronically prior to competition day. On competition day, teams will complete two components:

Multiple Choice: 40 MCQs (90 minutes)

Design/Build Challenge: Using designated materials, a group of 4 work to complete a hands-on design challenge related to the annual competition theme (75 minutes)
Middle school level consists of three components:

Multiple Choice: 32 MCQs (60 minutes)

Design/Build Challenge: Using designated materials, groups of 4-8 work to complete a hands-on design challenge related to the annual competition theme (75 minutes)
State-level rankings are provided for each of the three components. Best in the state is determined by combining all three scores. The overall top 50 in the nation are invited to compete nationally.
